What we do

Students walking the Sandwalk at Down House in 2009
The Big Idea

We take Darwin's life, his home and his work, to inspire students and teachers to see and learn about the natural world, through their own experiences. We are therefore developing the life story model of Darwin the scientist as a doorway to scientific enquiry. We do this by developing:

  • learning programmes delivered at Down House and elsewhere, using examples from the life and work of Darwin and highlighting Darwin's legacy to contemporary science
  • activities enhancing students' scientific skills and understanding and supporting their development as independent, insightful, life-long learners
  • follow up support for teachers, helping them plan and deliver Darwin Inspired Learning in their own schools and communities.
