Research into Darwin Inspired teaching and learning
Drawing on research looking at the role of learning outside the classroom, enquiry based learning and studies of the history and philosophy of science, one of our educators, Emma Newall, aims to critically investigate the pedagogy of the Charles Darwin Trust, Darwin Inspired Learning. Through her participation in a Doctorate in Education at the Institute of Education, London, she will examine:
- The development of Darwin Inspired Learning
- Its meaning to its practitioners
- Its impact on teachers
- Its impact on students
- Its wider implications for science education and the contribution it makes to our understanding of how students learn in science.
She is also interested in the potential role for scientists, both historical and contemporary, in developing children’s understanding of science and the natural world and supporting the next generation of researchers.
